On Eagles' Wings Prayer Strategy Print E-mail

Introduction

The spiritual exercise of prayer is woven throughout the complete Word of God. Prayer is so vital God reserves His action based often on the praying of God’s people. We’re reminded from Scripture that God’s Word says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray, therefore, the Lord of the Harvest that He would send forth laborers into His harvest field.” God already knows the harvest is plenteous. If He already knows it, why, then, doesn’t He just send the laborers? He wants God’s people to exercise the spiritual discipline of prayer before He moves and answers. Prayer is the key!

Pray Often, Pray Always

As an On Eagles’ Wings visit is confirmed, we would ask that all participating churches begin the process of intentional prayer for the On Eagles’ Wings team well in advance of the team’s arrival.

From there, the following ideas can be implemented:

  • Weekly prayer during worship services by the pastor or missionary
  • Special gatherings of all participating churches for corporate prayer
  • Encourage missionaries to get their support team to pray
  • Prayer walks over the event sites prior to the team’s arrival
  • Prayer over the facilities that will house the team while in your area
  • Encourage other non-Native evangelical churches in the area to join in the prayer movement
  • Encourage short-term missions groups, if on-site during the OEW visit, to see their primary role as prayer warriors, away from the event site.

Listed below are some of the key items to be praying for:

  • Wisdom to OEW leaders as they select the team
  • Safety for team as they travel during the Summer of Hope
  • That God would open the heart of the lost (John 6:44)
  • That local tribal leaders would be impacted by the team
  • That traditionalists would see the impact of the team and trust Christ
  • That financial provisions would be enough to cover the costs
  • For the team leaders who give oversight to this amazing team
  • For the local planning committee as they provide local leadership
  • For all the logistics to be cared for, including housing, meals, etc.
  • For the important follow-up that will go on after the team leaves
  • For the establishment of an ongoing, effective, multi-church youth ministry to be birthed from the OEW experience.
